Brock Bowers gives high praise to freshman TE Lawson Luckie: ‘He’s pushing me’
Brock Bowers is excited about the future of the tight end position in Athens.
Bowers went on XM Radio on Tuesday at SEC Media Days and gave some high praise to true freshman tight end Lawson Luckie.
“Something that kind of reminded me of myself watching him is just how hard he works during our team runs,” Bowers said. “He’s out in the front running with me and we’re kind of pushing each other. It just kind of helps me too. Because the new guy comes in, he’s hungry, he’s pushing me.”
Here’s video of Bowers’ comments:

Luckie was a 4-star prospect in the class of 2023. He was the No. 144 overall player and the No. 8 tight end, according to 247Sports Composite rankings. He’s a Georgia native who attended Norcross High School.
He likely won’t have a major role in 2023, as Bowers returns as arguably the top tight end in the country. However, Bowers is eligible for the 2024 NFL Draft so there could still be opportunities for Luckie early in his career.
Bowers caught 63 passes for 942 yards and 7 touchdowns last season. He also rushed for 3 additional scores on the ground. He won the Mackey Award as the nation’s top tight end for 2022.
Georgia’s other tight end depth includes Oscar Delp and Pearce Spurlin III.
