There’s no doubt the Southeastern Conference has stepped up its game when it comes to college basketball in recent seasons but based on the accolades of the league’s coaches now that Buzz Williams has joined the SEC, things have been taken up a notch.
Despite the fact there are still two openings in the league (Arkansas and Vanderbilt), eight of the 12 SEC coaches have reached the Elite Eight and nine of the 12 have made the Sweet Sixteen during their careers with Williams adding his name to the list. Imagine if Arkansas or Vanderbilt hire coaches that can say the same. If any league can match the star power of the SEC now, which is debatable, the SEC would undoubtedly outshine the rest of the nation.
While his mind is no doubt on his team’s upcoming Final Four appearance, Bruce Pearl recently reacted to seeing the stats of the league’s current coaches. His response is as good as it gets — “It just means more!” in the SEC.
