Byrum Brown leads game-winning TD drive, Eric Winters denies Baylor’s deciding 2-point attempt

Byrum Brown and the Auburn Tigers are 1-0. For now, that’s all that matters.
The Tigers offense struggled throughout Saturday’s 17-16 win over the Baylor Bears, but the USF transfer was able to pull the Tigers together for a crucial touchdown drive in the late stages of the 4th quarter. Despite finishing with 3 interceptions on the evening, Brown rallied and got it done when it mattered.
Former Florida QB DJ Lagway wouldn’t go away quietly following Brown’s late touchdown, though. With his back against the wall, Lagway laced a perfect ball between Auburn defenders for a conversion on 4th and 10. From there, Lagway connected with Gavin Freeman for a short touchdown. With 9 seconds remaining, Auburn led Baylor 17-16 and the Bears decided to go for 2 to end it, right then and there.
The 2-point conversion very nearly succeeded, but Eric Winters had other plans. He stuffed the Baylor receiver just inches from the goal line to secure the 17-16 win.

Winters finished Saturday evening with 11 tackles and 2 tackles for loss.
There’s a lot to work on, but a win is a win. Auburn will be back in action next weekend against Southern Miss.
