Quarterback Cade Klubnik sprained his ankle in Clemson’s 41-10 win against Boston College last week. His availability for Saturday’s matchup with SMU is uncertain because of the ailment, according to Larry Williams of Tiger Illustrated.
On3 Sports’ Pete Nakos piggy-backed Williams’ report, revealing backup signal-caller Christopher Vizzina “has taken most of the first-team reps” in practice this week.

Vizzina, a former 4-star recruit out of Birmingham, AL, was the No. 75 player in the 247 Sports’ composite rankings of the 2023 class. He was the No. 6 quarterback in the same list, behind Arch Manning, Nico Iamaleava, Dante Moore, Jackson Arnold and Malachi Nelson. The redshirt sophomore has seen limited action in his career, completing 54.2% (26/48) of his passes for 227 yards, no touchdown passes and 1 interception across 12 relief appearances. He has not made a collegiate start.
Klubnik, a senior, has just 11 touchdowns in 6 games this season. He has thrown almost as many interceptions this year (5) as he did in 14 games last season (6). He and the Tigers have been one of the more disappointing teams in college football. Clemson hosts SMU at 3:30 p.m. E.T. on Saturday (ACC Network).
