Cadillac Williams knew he needed to fully understand what Tank Bigsby was thinking a few months ago when the star Auburn running back considered a transfer.

So the running backs coach had a heart-to-heart conversation with Bigsby, and ultimately, they set out on a new path for the 2022 season.

โ€œI kind of wanted to understand why, the whole why behind it, but with me it was just about, with him, is this something you really want to do?โ€ Williams said Monday, per AL.com. โ€œI think at times these kids have a lot of people putting stuff in their head, a lot of people telling them X, Y, Z, and a lot of people pulling at them.โ€

Now Auburn is re-thinking how its offense is shaped around one of the best running backs in the country.

โ€œWhen it all came back down to it, Tank Bigsby loves Auburn,โ€ Williams said. โ€œHe loves being here. He has made a name for himself, and I truly think it was something that he never really, really wanted to do. I just think a lot of times the outside noise can have an effect on you, but I just think when it all came said and done, he felt like this place was the best place for him, and I truly think it is.โ€

Williams believes his relationship with Bigsby is stronger, and he makes sure to be honest and transparent.

โ€œEven when everything was going on, we were still in a good place,โ€ Williams said. โ€œโ€ฆMy players know โ€” not only Tank Bigsby, but all my guys in my room know, man, that Iโ€™m going to keep it real with them. At the end of the day, I want them to do whatโ€™s best for them, but at the same time, like I told you, Iโ€™m going to be honest with you, and a lot of times it may not be what they want to hear, but this is what you need to hear, that this is the right thing.
