With football season looming next month, ESPN has made headlines this week by laying off a plethora of its employees, including a handful of notable personalities.
With Karl Ravech, Ryan Clark and Tom Pelissero already headlining the list of fired ESPN employees, one of the media realm’s most unpredictable and colorful voices will also no longer grace the screen for the network.
Per reporting from OutKick’s Bobby Burack on Tuesday, Cam Newton is one of the notable names being laid off at ESPN.
Newton had appeared in a variety of mediums for ESPN, most notably as a frequent guest on ‘First Take’ and other shows revolving around college football and the NFL. Known for his unique wardrobe and hot takes, Newton also joined Stephen A. Smith & Co. for their HBCU campus tour last fall.
The former Florida, Auburn and Carolina Panthers quarterback would likely be a sought-after commodity by other sports networks should be opt to remain in the industry. Newton last played in the NFL in 2021 with the Panthers.
This round of layoffs is the first since ESPN acquired the NFL Network back in January, with the media outlet also gearing up to broadcast the Super Bowl in 2027.
