The Auburn Tigers are getting ready to enter Year 1 of the Alex Golesh era on the Plains, and they will officially kick things off on Sept. 5 against the Baylor Bears at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in the 2026 Aflac Kickoff Game.
This yearly Week 1 battle in Atlanta typically pits a traditional SEC power against a traditional ACC power, but the Bears got the nod this time around after the second leg of their home-and-home with Auburn got switched out for this neutral-site showdown.
As with every Aflac Kickoff Game, each participating team selects an honorary captain to accompany them onto the field for the coin toss, and this year’s selections were announced on Tuesday afternoon via the official Aflac Kickoff Game website.
The honorary captain for Auburn when they take the field against Baylor will be none other than 2010 Heisman Winner and National Championship-winning quarterback Cam Newton, while his counterpart will be fellow Heisman winner Robert Griffin III.

Newton and Griffin represent 2 of the biggest stars from the early 2010s in college football, so it only makes sense that they represent their respective schools in the Week 1 clash in the Peach State.
