Cam Ward has added to his Miami legacy as a player who is not only one of the best players in program history, but also has established himself within the ranks as one of the best signal-callers in NCAA after he broke Case Keenum’s Division I record for touchdown passes during Saturday’s Pop-Tarts Bowl.

Ward completed his 156th career touchdown pass to receiver Jacolby George with just over 4 minutes remaining in the first quarter of the bowl game. It’s a DI record because Ward’s college football career includes time at Incarnate Ward. FCS counts in Division I records.

It was the first of 3 passing TDs for Ward in the 1st half, helping Miami out to a 31-28 lead on Iowa State.

Ward entered the game with a completion percentage of 67.4%, throwing for 4,123 yards, 36 touchdowns and 7 interceptions. He has been one of the biggest risers in the CFB landscape as a journeyman transfer who seems to have finally hit his stride after being something of a flash in the pan at places like UIW. Sometimes the portal can be a difference-maker, and that’s been the case for Ward.

For Ward to be playing in this game after he has been pinned as a potential No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft is a huge deal considering that so many players opt out of events like this in order to avoid injuries. There is far more for him after this on the horizon for the quarterback in terms of a professional career.
