Carson Beck — and every Miami coach, player, and fan, for that matter — won’t be in the best of moods on Saturday. That’s after the Hurricanes suffered their first loss of the year, falling to Louisville 24-21 at Hard Rock Stadium on Friday night.

Beck, who notably joined the Canes in the offseason after 5 seasons at Georgia, had led his team to a perfect 5-0 mark and a No. 2 ranking before Friday. Coming into the contest against the Cardinals, he had thrown 11 touchdowns versus just 3 interceptions.

He picked a bad time to have a bad game. Despite going 25-of-35 for 271 yards, Beck threw 0 touchdowns and 4 interceptions against Louisville. He was picked on back-to-back drives in the second quarter and twice more in the fourth quarter, the last one coming at the Cards’ 30 with 32 seconds left. A fifth pass thrown to the Cardinals was called back on a roughing the passer penalty.

Miami isn’t out of the College Football Playoff picture just yet. But we’ve seen this movie before from the Canes. They were in an even better position in 2024, starting 9-0 before losing two of their next three games to end any chance of making the 12-team field. While they should still be favored in their remaining contests, Friday’s result showed that it’s far from a given that they’ll run the table.

Meanwhile, here’s social media reaction to Beck’s performance, including from some Georgia fans:
