CBS Sports analyst confident that Kamario Taylor won’t transfer from Mississippi State

Kamario Taylor’s red-hot start to the 2026 campaign has prompted plenty of eyes to turn towards Starkville, and that includes some potential suitors in the transfer portal.
The Mississippi State quarterback possesses the arm talent, frame and dual-threat attributes that would have any offensive coordinator drooling, and thus it figures that plenty of other programs–likely ones with deeper pockets than the Bulldogs–would make a run at securing Taylor’s services.
But while many have already begun to speculate about possible destinations, CBS Sports’ Bud Elliott expressed his confidence in the star signal-caller remaining in Starkville beyond this season.
“I don’t think he’s leaving. I think Mississippi State would find a way if it truly was just about the highest dollar amount, and I don’t think it is,” Elliott said. “He [Taylor] grew up in the shadow of that stadium, he’s always wanted to play for Mississippi State.”
Elliot went on to talk at length about Taylor’s family connections to MSU, how close he is to an NFL payday and his current success within Jeff Lebby‘s offensive scheme as major reasons why he’d stay.
“He’s growing up as the hometown hero, getting to play in the hometown stadium,” Elliott said. “I don’t see it.”
The analyst closed by emphasizing that while the Bulldogs have some of the lower-level funding in the SEC, that still counts for a lot when compared to how Duke lost Darian Mensah as a similarly positioned program in the ACC.
Being that Taylor is from the state of Mississippi, has been outspoken about loving being in Starkville and turned down potential offers last offseason, it’s reasonable to assume that Elliot is correct.
But of course, in today’s age of college football, a week of the actual season can’t go by without people fantasizing about the transfer portal and its looming presence.
