When LSU hired Lane Kiffin, the expectations were lofty for the Tigers in 2026. Heading into Week 11, however, Kiffin’s squad will be 6-3 and on the outside looking in of the College Football Playoff picture.

Considering the expectations and the result so far, CBS Sports analyst Beanie Wells labels Year 1 of Kiffin’s LSU tenure a disappointment.

“I think everybody has to be sitting there looking at this LSU team as a complete disappointment,” Wells said. “… Everything that you know was talked about in the offseason with Lane Kiffin going here, getting all these great players, Sam Leavitt supposed to be the next great quarterback that they get down there in Baton Rouge. And for things to come up how they have been, … this has to be considered a disappointment overall in its entirety.”

While LSU still has 3 regular-season games left on the schedule, Wells feels that the Tigers could not afford an 18-point loss to Alabama to stay in the Playoff picture. Up next, LSU will host a Texas squad ranked No. 7 before picking up a win over No. 18 Mizzou on Saturday to improve to 7-2.
