The first round of the College Football Playoff has almost arrived, and everybody is sure to have their eyes glued to the massive rematch between the Alabama Crimson Tide and the Oklahoma Sooners out in Norman.

Brent Venables and the Sooners knocked off the Tide in Tuscaloosa a few weeks back thanks in large part to a stellar performance from their elite defense, and now they’ll be looking to do so again at home in a win-or-go-home scenario.

CBS Sports analyst Aaron Taylor recently broke down the crucial first-round rematch between SEC foes, and he sees round 2 playing out in a similar fashion to round 1.

“In 3 games, twice against Georgia, once against Oklahoma, only 14 total points in the second half between those 3 contests,” Taylor said. “The bottom line is that against elite defenses, Alabama is getting out-coached, they’re getting outplayed, and I believe that happens again when they play Oklahoma.”

It’s no secret that Alabama’s offense has been sputtering down the stretch, and the Sooners have already proven they are more than capable of shutting down Ty Simpson.

If Kalen DeBoer and Ryan Grubb can’t find a way to regain some of the momentum their offense had in the first half of the season, then Taylor’s prediction has a very good shot at becoming reality come Friday.
