CBS Sports obviously paid a lot of attention to the SEC in primetime during a frantic Week 6 in the conference.
Because on Saturday night, Georgia took down Alabama in Tuscaloosa not too long after Kentucky outlasted LSU in Lexington in an overtime thriller. The 2 victories were huge for the Bulldogs and Wildcats, for many reasons, and there were 2 specific units who had a lot to do with those massive wins.
There was the Georgia defense led by third-year defensive coordinator Glenn Schumann, and there was the Kentucky offense run by first-year offensive coordinator Joe Sloan. Both Schumann and Sloan showed out on Saturday night as their units were huge in those primetime wins, and CBS Sports rewarded both assistants on Monday morning by naming Schumann and Sloan its co-coordinators of the week in the SEC.
We’ll start with offense and with Sloan, whose Wildcats rolled up 401 yards of total offense. More importantly, behind the play of transfer quarterback Kenny Minchey, Kentucky found a way late to pull the game out, pulling through in overtime with a touchdown and 2-point conversion that put the Cats over the top in the 35-34 victory.
Minchey was at the forefront of that effort, but Sloan was also at the center of it all, as he directed a victory over LSU, the program he had spent the previous 4 seasons at as an assistant and offensive coordinator.
But what about defense? How about that Dawgs defense in Tuscaloosa led by Schumann? Alabama had rolled up incredible offensive totals through its first 5 games, but not on Saturday and not against that Georgia defense run by Schumann.
The Bulldogs held the Crimson Tide under 20 points in the 20-17 victory. Bama only had 346 yards of total offense, and the Tide were held to 3 poitns after halftime. CBS Sports rewarded Schumann for that effort in shutting down Keelon Russell and Co.

The SEC is loaded again, as CBS Sports’ nod to 2 coordinators showed in the aftermath of Week 6. Here is what the Kalshi market is currently saying about who has the best odds to bring home that SEC trophy as conference champions in December:
