The biggest matchup of what’s sure to be a jammed-packed Week 2 slate of college football is, without question, the game between the No. 15 Michigan Wolverines and the No. 18 Oklahoma Sooners.
This clash of Blue Bloods could have some very serious early playoff implications, and as such, both sides will be looking to put their best foot forward, and for the Sooners, this means several roster changes from what they trotted out in week 1.
According to ESPN’s Pete Thamel, Oklahoma head coach Brent Venables is shaking things up along the offensive line, with the most notable change being the first career start of former 5-star recruit and true freshman OT Michael Fasusi.
“We’re gonna see some wholesale changes on the offensive line,” Thamel said on College GameDay. “The Sooners averaged just over 3 yards a carry in the opener. There’ll be 2 new starters at tackle this week, including the debut of touted true freshman Michael Fasusi.
“He’s a former top-10 overall recruit. He’s one of the bedrocks of the future of the program. Look for big number 56 to make his debut tonight.”
The other new starter at tackle for the Sooners will be senior transfer Derek Simmons, and Thamel also had a positive update on transfer running back Jaydn Ott, who was limited last week with a lingering shoulder injury.
“As for the tailback situation here at Oklahoma, Jaydn Ott, the transfer from Cal, was limited last week with a shoulder injury,” Thamel said again on GameDay. “And Rece, as you know, I’m delighted to be able to report this injury update in the form of a song. With apologies to our friends at the Calgorithm. O-T-T-T-O-G-O Jaydn Ott is set to go.”
It’s clear that the Sooners are pulling out all the stops ahead of a pivotal matchup against the Wolverines, and it will be interesting to see whether or not it ends up paying off with a massive early-season win.
