LSU star linebacker Whit Weeks has battled injuries for much of his collegiate career, and he’s set to be sidelined with another ailment following Saturday’s game against Texas A&M.
Weeks exited the contest and was seen sporting a boot on his right leg while walking off the field.
And as CBS Sports’ Matt Zenitz reported Sunday, Weeks suffered a fracture in his leg and will have to undergo surgery to repair it.
Zenitz indicated that the initial hope is Weeks could return within the next 4-6 weeks of action, but the outcome of Monday’s surgery will truly determine if that is possible.
A 4-year player within the LSU program, Weeks is an unquestioned leader of the Tigers’ defense and has racked up 24 total tackles thus far this season.
Looking ahead, the Bayou Bengals will have to maintain their defensive success without the services of their star linebacker, at least for the foreseeable future.
Following a home date with the FCS’ McNeese this weekend, trips to Kentucky and Auburn sandwich a home clash with a surging Mississippi State squad. Then following a bye, Alabama and Texas will visit Death Valley in back-to-back weeks, a period of time that Weeks may aim to return for if possible.
