Former Auburn defensive lineman Big Kat Bryant, who has transferred to UCF, raised some eyebrows around Auburn recently when he told reporters that UCF could โfor sureโ beat SEC teams like Auburn and Ole Miss.
Chandler Wooten, an Auburn linebacker and former teammate of Bryant, responded to those comments when he met with reporters on Wednesday.
“I thought it was pretty funny, but other than that I didn’t put too much thought into it,” Wooten said, and added that they’re each focused on their own teams now, per Jordan D. Hill.
Wooten said he’s caught up to speed since opting out last season, and added that the difference from the spring is “night and day.”
“Everything’s new, but sometimes change is good. I’ve enjoyed everything coach Harsin preaches about … It’s just a different energy, a different vibe,” he said.
He described the “linebacker friendly” defense as an alignment and style that allows them to play fast and let their athleticism take over.
Wooten said he’s looking for a big year from the defensive line, and he’s seen the strides the linemen have made in fall camp.
He also called edge players “definitely different.”
“Just using their speed, their athleticism to fly around,” he said. “That’s a group that has to play with a lot of energy … Those guys definitely have a high motor.”
