Chris Doering was an All-SEC and All-American wide receiver at Florida, finishing his career in Gainesville in 1995 with many accolades and many victories along the way.
Now a college football analyst for SEC Network, Doering believes there is another victory on the way for Florida fans on Saturday afternoon (3:30 p.m. ET, ABC) when the 21st-ranked Gators host No. 4 Ole Miss.
Doering wasn’t trying to be a homer on the eve of the titanic SEC matchup when he picked UF to prevail.
He was just calling it like he saw it, and Doering thinks his alma mater will have the slight edge on Saturday at home.
“We talked about Ole Miss not having played a true road game since the Egg Bowl last year, it’s surprising, right, that Florida’s a favorite in this ballgame, and it’s not because they’re coming off a big, emotional win, it’s not going into The Swamp, there are matchup issues that are problems for Ole Miss, that being the secondary, they were covered up last week because of the pass rush,” Doering said.
“I think Florida is able to block up front and take advantage of those mismatches in the secondary. Gators win this one by a touchdown.”
