Week 1 is fast approaching, and the SEC has a loaded slate of games this season. One of the more interesting games for the SEC during the opening week is Auburn’s opener against Baylor on the road on Friday night.

Many question marks surround what this Auburn team will look like based on the talent they brought in through the transfer portal and in their recruiting class. They can make a statement against a quality Baylor team on the road. Chris Doering of SEC This Morning on SiriusXM made the point that this is a make-or-break season for Auburn as a whole, and they need to make a quick statement right out of the gate to say that they are a good game.

Chris Doering told Ian Fitzsimmons on the show, “The most important opener of any team in the SEC.”

Doering’s main point is that Baylor is a coin-flip game that the Tigers can win. After that, they play two easier games: home games against Ball State and South Alabama, before heading on the road for two straight weeks as SEC play gets started for them against Oklahoma and Texas A&M.

Jackson Arnold needs to look good and gain some confidence after that first game because his confidence was rattled while at Oklahoma. The entire offense has new pieces to get acclimated, and if they gel right away in Waco, then the Tigers have the talent to potentially be a contender in the SEC if things break their way. They could ride that momentum to a 4-0 or 5-0 start.
