Chris Jans has faced Tennessee before this season. It did not go as planned for Mississippi State in the first game.

At Tuesday’s presser, Jans received a question about if playing the Volunteers already has played a part in the preparation for round two. The first time around Tennessee beat Mississippi State 87-53.

Jans stated that he didn’t really show his team any clips from that game.

That was the game where we talked about it in this very room that we didnโ€™t show them any particular clips from that game. I havenโ€™t done that in a long, long time as a head coach and I donโ€™t remember when I actually didnโ€™t do that. But I just felt at that point and juncture in the schedule, there wouldnโ€™t be much positive coming out of that.

Now the team has gone back and watched the tape leading up to the second meeting. Jans has a better understanding of how the game got so out of hand.

But now, we’re having to go back and watch it in preparation for this game. It was just a combination of Tennessee playing really, really well, getting hot early and the basket looking really big and us getting off to a horrible start. We just dug ourselves such a deep hole on the road against such a good team. We had no chance to win the game at that point if you go back and watch it.

Tipoff will be live from Starkville Tuesday at 7 p.m. ET on ESPN2.
