Chris Low names SEC team best in CFB through September

It’s the final day of September and the first full month of the 2026 college football season is nearing a close. The Texas Longhorns rank No. 1 in the AP Poll, and several SEC teams are poised for a run at the College Football Playoff as the bulk of SEC play approaches.
On Wednesday, On3’s Chris Low released his superlatives list for the month of September with a proper sample size of games now available. Perhaps the most interesting pick on Low’s superlatives list was his best team of September, which he awarded not to Texas but instead to the Georgia Bulldogs.
A lot of folks in Austin won’t like that one.
Texas certainly has an argument from a resume perspective. The Longhorns boast wins over Ohio State and Tennessee in front of a raucous crowd at Neyland Stadium, while also possessing one of the nastiest defensive lines in college football. Georgia, on the other hand, has one good win on the season — a 41-13 stomping of Oklahoma at Sanford Stadium.
Georgia’s defense rivals Texas, Miami and Notre Dame for the title of the best unit in the country through September. Georgia is top 5 in yards allowed per game, leaning on stars such as Raylen Wilson, Chris Cole and Ellis Robinson IV. Alongside Alabama, Georgia leads the SEC’s turnover margin at 1.25.
The Bulldogs are back in action on Saturday, set to face off against former 2-time Bulldogs commit Jared Curtis and his Vanderbilt Commodores.
