We’re on the eve of October, meaning we’re roughly one-third of the way through the 2026 college football season. While some teams, like the Mississippi State Bulldogs, have pleasantly surprised so far, others have fallen short of expectations. To On3’s Chris Low, the school at the exact opposite end of the Bulldogs’ spectrum also hails in the SEC.
On Wednesday, Low named the Texas A&M Aggies his most disappointing college football team through September.
“The Aggies started the season ranked No. 8 in the AP preseason poll and eyeing a second straight trip to the playoff,” Low said. “But they’ve lost their last two games to LSU and Kentucky, the loss to the Wildcats coming at home, and both losses were by double digits.”
If Aggie fans were turning to Low for hope, he doesn’t have it for them. He can’t see Texas A&M turning its season around.
“Quarterback Marcel Reed has struggled, but he’s not the only issue for the Aggies,” Low continued. “They’ve lost the line of scrimmage battle in each of their losses… Texas A&M still has games remaining against four nationally ranked teams, two of those against Top 10 foes Alabama and Texas. At this rate, the Yell Leaders may be yelling some not so nice things by season’s end, and the Aggies’ fans already are.”
Low’s classification isn’t an end-all, be-all, but it’s definitely not assuring. Mike Elko’s team faces the Arkansas Razorbacks on Saturday night (7:00 p.m. E.T., ESPN2).
