Vanderbilt football head coach Clark Lea told reporters on Thursday that senior quarterback Blaze Berlowitz will start for the Commodores on Saturday against Delaware.

Berlowitz will start for Vanderbilt for the second straight week, handed the keys to the Commodores’ offense over true freshman and former 5-star talent Jared Curtis. According to The Tennessean’s Aria Gerson, both Berlowitz and Curtis will see action against the Blue Hens, as was the case last week.

Berlowitz still being Vanderbilt’s starter entering Week 2 is a surprise to say the least. Curtis is the highest-rated recruit in program history and picked the Commodores after originally committed to Georgia out of high school.

Lea mentioned before Week 1 that Berlowitz would be granted the starting job in Week 1 but was non-committal on the starter for each week thereafter. Berlowitz attempted 16 passing attempts in last week’s win over Austin Peay, completing 11 for 149 yards, zero touchdowns and zero turnovers. He did some damage with his legs though, adding 11 carries for 44 yards and a rushing touchdown.

Curtis saw some action against the Governors, too. The true freshman completed 7 of his 9 attempts for 60 yards, adding 3 carries for 22 yards.
