The Vanderbilt Commodores were without quarterback Jared Curtis for their Week 5 game against the Georgia Bulldogs. Blaze Berlowitz kept Vandy in the game through the first half, but the Bulldogs pulled away to win 38-14 in Athens. Fans hoping to see Curtis on the field vs. the Ole Miss Rebels, though, may be out of luck.

On Wednesday, Commodore head coach Clark Lea told reporters Curtis was questionable for Saturday’s game.

“We’re day to day. Jared was unable to play last Saturday and that was disappointing for him and us,” Lea said. “It’s a process he’s working through. Right now, he’s questionable for the game. He’s further along this week than he was last week, but we have to continue to see how he responds.”

Curtis, a true freshman, was the No. 4 players in the 2026 recruiting class, according to 247Sports Composite rankings. The Nashville native has completed 64.3% of his passes (63/98) for 746 yards, four touchdowns and three interceptions.

The 2026 campaign always shaped up as more of a rebuilding year for Vanderbilt (3-2, 0-2 SEC). Clark Lea obviously wants to continue winning games, but developing Curtis into a high-level quarterback was always going to be priority No. 1 this season. The Commodores host the Rebels at 3:30 p.m. E.T. on Saturday (ESPN).
