Vanderbilt coach Clark Lea didnโ€™t mince words when asked about his quarterback this week.

โ€œDiego Pavia deserves all the attention and credit that he gets,โ€ Lea said. โ€œI mean, he is a difference maker.โ€

And truthfully, itโ€™s hard to argue. Pavia has been the spark behind Vandyโ€™s 5-0 start and rise into the AP Top 25. Heโ€™s the guy giving the Commodores real juice heading into Saturdayโ€™s trip to No. 10 Alabama, and heโ€™s done it while navigating plenty of drama off the field, too.

โ€œThere’s only a handful of guys who can take a game over and we’re fortunate to have one of those taking the snaps for us,โ€ Lea said. โ€œHe’s also a chip-on-the-shoulder guy. He’s a guy who’s had to prove it his entire life. That’s the kind of program we are. We say we’re a team of misfits here, and he fits perfectly into that.”

Vanderbilt and Alabama are set for a 3:30 p.m. ET kickoff from Bryant-Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa. The game will air on ABC.
