One of the Xs and Os wrinkles of the game in Charlotte this week between Georgia and Clemson is transfer defensive back Derion Kendrick, who now plays for Georgia.
Coaches from both sides have been asked about the need, or value, of changing sides, or getting inside information for Georgia on Clemson’s personnel. Clemson offensive coordinator Tony Elliott was the latest coach to weigh in on the possibility of adjusting to what Kendrick might share with his new Georgia teammates and coaches.
Of course, it could go both ways as Clemson is aware of Kendrick’s strengths and weaknesses.
“Those are the real trade secrets that youโre asking for,” Elliott said, per Clemson247. “Youโve gotta be mindful of that. But youโve also gotta understand that it happens in real time, too. So you donโt wanna just change everything that you do and confuse your own guys. But you do want to give some respect to him that he may have some inside knowledge. But at the end of the day, once it gets going, itโs not going to be about what information he was able to pass on. Itโs going to be about the one-on-one matchups. Obviously he knows our guys. We know him. So itโs gonna be that cat-and-mouse, that battle, to see who can play the most disciplined football on those one-on-one matchups.”
