It’s been a fairytale couple of years for former LSU running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire, and things only continue getting better for him.

Not only did he land with the Super Bowl Champion Kansas City Chiefs during the 2020 NFL Draft (No. 32 overall), but the Chiefs starting running back Damien Williams opted out of the 2020 season due to COVID-19.

“As an organization, we certainly understand and respect Damien’s choice, knowing it was made in the best interest of his family,” general manager Brett Veach said Wednesday. “He means a lot to our football team as a player and a person, and we’re going to miss having him around this season.”

Williams was a star in the Super Bowl in the win over San Francisco. He scored 2 final touchdowns to help seal the victory.

Now, the door is now wide open for Edwards-Helaire, who can excel in every facet of the game. He’s an every-down back who can run, catch and block. The 5-foot-7, 210-pound bowling ball rushed for 1,414 yards and 16 touchdowns during 2019’s national championship season. He also added 55 catches for 453 yards and 1 touchdown.

Patrick Mahomes was excited when the Chiefs drafted Edwards-Helaire, and now, he’s going to have to lean on him during the running back’s rookie season.
