The pecking order in the SEC appears to be sorting itself out, as four teams have appeared to emerge into the realm of the ‘elite’ while a handful of others are still clinging on to their preseason expectations.
Texas A&M and Alabama sit in prime position to battle it out for the league’s championship in early December, while Georgia and Ole Miss lurk and are waiting on one of the two to stumble.
Meanwhile, Texas and Oklahoma are both still hanging on to their College Football Playoff hopes as two-loss squads, with each having plenty of opportunities to make statements to the committee over the coming weeks.
To sift through all that occurred Saturday, the Week 11 Coaches Poll was unveiled, and it included 9 SEC teams, with 6 residing in the top 15:
1. Ohio State
2. Indiana
3. Texas A&M
4. Alabama
5. Georgia
6. Oregon
7. Ole Miss
8. BYU
9. Texas Tech
10. Notre Dame
11. Virginia
12. Oklahoma
13. Texas
14. Georgia Tech
15. Louisville
16. Vanderbilt
17. Missouri
18. Miami
19. Utah
20. Michigan
21. USC
22. Tennessee
23. Memphis
24. Iowa
25. Cincinnati
LSU received a single vote as the only other SEC team included.
Of course, both the Coaches and AP polls will lose some of their luster when the first official College Football Playoff rankings are revealed at 8 p.m. EST on Tuesday night. The unveiling of the CFP’s poll will be broadcast by ESPN.
