On Tuesday, there were reports that Alabama and TCU had discussed the possibility of playing each other in Week 1 of any potential 2020 season.
That’s because the state of California continues to have strict lockdown guidelines during the COVID-19 pandemic. TCU is currently scheduled to play Cal in Week 1 and Alabama is set to take on USC in Dallas in Week 1, but those games might not be able to happen.
In fact, FOX Sports host Colin Cowherd said 2 of his sources have told him the Trojans and Tide aren’t going to be able to play due to lockdown protocols in LA County:
Told by two people I trust — USC v Alabama isn’t happening. Trojans can’t even practice in LA potentially for several months. This is why Bama already talking to other possible opponents. Not official but understood. Feeling now that Pac 12 football in spring — much more likely.

Could the Pac-12 play football in the spring? It will be important for the conference to play football if at all possible for financial reasons.
But, what would happen if the other 4 Power 5 conferences play this fall? There’s a lot that needs to be sorted out at the moment.
