Throw records out the window when it comes to rivalry games in college football.
Unranked Oklahoma stunned No. 1 Texas on Saturday, downing the Longhorns 27-24 behind an impressive defense and special teams effort. Despite finishing 2-for-13 on 3rd down and gaining 150 less yards than the Longhorns, Oklahoma still found a way to win as Arch Manning and the Texas offense failed to put it away.
Colin Simmons had a nice game for the Longhorns, totaling a pair of sacks with 4 tackles and 3 tackles for loss. Following the game, Simmons was asked if he felt like Texas beat itself on Saturday. His answer?
“We definitely beat ourselves,” Simmons said. “Only Texas can beat Texas.”
Nobody but Texas can beat Texas… and Oklahoma, apparently.
The Sooners have really struggled this season, but their ability to overcome adversity was pretty impressive on Saturday. An early punt block TD changed the momentum of the game, and a Peyton Bowen pick 6 gave the Sooners the lead in the 4th quarter. From there, yet another Manning interception set the Sooners up for the game-winning field goal as time expired.
The win was Oklahoma’s first over Texas since 2023.
