A college football stadium in Kentucky has been submerged and remains underwater due to catastrophic flooding in the region that has resulted in fatalities and forced evacuations.
The University of the Cumberlands in Williamsburg, Kentucky has been especially hit hard with many facilities still soaked due to the flooding. That includes James H. Taylor, II Stadium where the Patriots play their home games in the Mid-South Conference of the NAIA.
The flooding is from the nearby Cumberland River with the area forecasted to be in a flood warning through Thursday. According to Matt Jones with KY Sports Radio, Kentucky football has used the University of the Cumberlands field for practice when traveling to face Tennessee.
Jones also reported that 11 people have died as of Monday morning as a result of the flooding with 1,000 people rescued so far.
Thoughts and prayers go out to the Williamsburg community and surrounding areas as they continue to deal with the conditions. The region will certainly need some time to work and regroup before things return to normal, but first, the flooding must recede.
