College GameDay on Saturday discussed the struggles of Arkansas during John Calipari’s first season in Fayetteville.
Calipari was brought in to get the program to the next level after Eric Musselman departed for USC in the offseason. So far, things haven’t worked out: the Razorbacks are 11-6 and 0-4 in the SEC ahead of an away game at Mizzou on Saturday.
“It’s the life that comes along with the territory of being Calipari and making that in-conference move and then having that perceived NIL budget. It’s what comes along with it. He’s going to handle it. I think he’s going to be okay. It’s just going to be a fight,” Jay Williams said.
Seth Greenberg contended that Calipari “didn’t forget how to coach”, but given the Hogs’ roster, some change is necessary, in part due to their lack of rebounding.
“They can go to a big lineup … Two, they can go some zone because if you play big, you’ve got a big back line,” he said.
“You’re talking about in-game adjustments,” Williams jumped in.
“No, this is not in-game adjustments. This is in-season adjustments,” Greenberg replied. “Good coaches have agility. You take your roster and say, ‘Wait a second … what we’re doing and how we’re doing it and why we’re doing it doesn’t fit our personnel.’ So you’ve got to have some agility. You’ve got to make adjustments. If you continue to do the same thing, you’re going to get the same results.”
We’ll see if Calipari makes the necessary adjustments and turns the Razorbacks’ fortunes before the season spirals further.
