College football is back and in business, which means that ESPN’s College GameDay is the king of every Saturday for the foreseeable future.
There’s great GameDay action still to be had, but what we’ve seen so far in just one week is great news for the movers and shakers on top of the ESPN totem pole.
According to Julie McKay of ESPN PR, College GameDay in Week 1 – which was featured at Ohio State – drew in 2.1 million average viewers. In fact, it was the best pre-November show GameDay has had since 2016, which is quite a feat.

It will be interesting to see what the addition of Pat McAfee will bring to the show. Not only is McAfee one of the most well-liked and watched/listened to personalities in all of sports right now, but he’s joining GameDay as a full-time member of the on-air crew. That could provide an already popular show with even more boost.
GameDay will be in Austin, Texas in Week 2 for a matchup between the No. 1 ranked Alabama Crimson Tide and the unranked Texas Longhorns.
