College GameDay shares ‘Saban’ sneak peek spotlighting Nick Saban’s return to LSU as Alabama coach

College GameDay was all about coaching returns on Saturday morning.
There was Lane Kiffin‘s return, which was why the show was coming live from Oxford, where Kiffin’s new team, LSU, would be facing Kiffin’s old team, Ole Miss, on Saturday night in a 7:30 p.m. ET kickoff on ABC.
But that’s the here and now.
What about a special coaching return from the past? That’s what College GameDay, in the spirit of Kiffin’s return, was also featuring on Saturday morning, as it flashed back to Nick Saban‘s special return to LSU in 2008 as the head coach at Alabama.
Saban, who coached LSU to a national title in 2003 before he ever got to Alabama in 2007 and won 6 more national championships, will be featured in an upcoming ESPN documentary this fall that’s simply titled, “Saban.” ESPN chose to give fans who are already excited about the 6-part documentary a sneak peek on Saturday morning by spotlighting Saban when he took Alabama to Baton Rouge for the annual clash between the Crimson Tide and Tigers in 2008.

Saban got out of Death Valley with an overtime victory in that return, as a top-ranked Alabama team gave its head coach what surely is 1 of the most special wins in his legendary coaching career.
The first episode of the “Saban” documentary will be released on Thursday, Oct. 8, with all 6 episodes being televised on ESPN throughout the remainder of October and into early November.
A couple decades after Saban’s iconic return to Baton Rouge, Alabama and LSU are both in their familiar roles, which is chasing an SEC title. Here is what the Kalshi market is currently saying about the chances for the Crimson Tide and Tigers to capture the SEC championship come December:
