Conference realignment is active again.
Last month, Texas State formally announced its departure from the Sun Belt for 2026-27 and accepted an invitation to join the Pac-12. The Sun Belt is moving to fill that opening.
According to reports, the Sun Belt is targeting Louisiana Tech. Member leadership will reportedly vote Monday on whether to extend an invitation to La Tech.
Sun Belt presidents are scheduled to meet Monday when they are expected to vote on extending an invitation to Louisiana Tech. The Bulldogs would need 10 of 13 remaining schools to vote yes to receive an invitation.

Louisiana Tech has been a member of Conference USA since 2013. The program was previously part of the WAC (2001-12). A move to the Sun Belt would put La Tech in the same conference as Louisiana, Louisiana-Monroe and Southern Miss.
This latest round of conference realignment has been expected. Texas State gives the Pac-12 an 8th football member, meaning the conference holds onto FBS status in 2026-27.
A June report from ESPN identified Louisiana Tech as the likely favorite for the Sun Belt to fill the Texas State vacancy. It was also mentioned that Conference USA could look to Tarleton State as a replacement for La Tech.
