Frank Wilson spent 6 years as LSU’s associate head coach, running backs coach, and recruiting coordinator before taking the reins for UTSA for 4 seasons. After his firing in San Antonio, he returned to the state of Louisiana as the head coach of FCS McNeese State for 2 seasons.

Wilson is now back at Baton Rouge as Brian Kelly’s associate head coach. One of the major questions regarding Kelly was how he’d connect with a rich base of talent in Louisiana, and adding one of the country’s top recruiters and someone who knows the state well is a massive boost to his initial staff. Probably the most notable player Wilson recruited to Baton Rouge is Leonard Fournette, who called the hiring of Wilson “the most important key” to the Tigers’ success and “the best running back coach I’ve had on all levels”.

We now know the financial details of Wilson’s new $3-year, $2.85 million contract. In 2022, he’ll be guaranteed to make $900,000, then $950,000 in 2023 and $1 million in 2024. As The Athletic’s Brody Miller notes, that’s a big step up from his former employer:

We’ll see if Wilson can pick up where he left off on the recruiting trail and help make the Tigers a major factor in the SEC once more.
