Crimson Tide kicker Griffth receives national honor

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. _ University of Alabama sophomore Adam Griffith received another honor when the Lou Groza Award for kicker of the year named him of its three “Stars of the Week,” on Tuesday.

Also named were Florida State sophomore Roberto Aguayo, who won the 2013 award, and Penn State senior kicker Sam Ficken.

Aguayo made field goals of 37, 36 and 27 yards to go with four extra points for against Oklahoma State in the Cowboys Classic at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

Ficken had a game-winning 36-yard field goal as time expired against UCF in Dublin, Ireland. He also made field goals of 33, 24 and 22 yards.

Griffith was 4-for-4 for the Crimson Tide against West Virginia in the Georgia Dome, connecting on field goals of 47, 45, 41 and 27 yards. He was named the Southeastern Conference’s special teams player of the week on Monday.
