Cris Collinsworth explains why Joe Burrow’s strong start is only a glimpse of what’s to come

NBC Sports analyst Cris Collinsworth knows a thing or two about Cincinnati Bengals quarterbacks. The former Bengals receiver also lives in the Cincinnati area.

Collinsworth shared with Colin Cowherd on “The Herd” why former LSU star Joe Burrow’s hot start is not a mirage. Bengals owner Mike Brown realized he had a potential MVP and a player who could lead the Bengals to the Super Bowl, and that’s why he didn’t entertain trade offers for the No. 1 overall draft pick.

Collinsworth knows Burrow was an excellent deep ball QB in college, but that is what’s missing so far in the NFL.

“He’s been magical,” Collinsworth said. “… But we have not seen him really begin to hit some of those deep balls that he did at LSU. I really look for him to get better. I think we’re looking at the tip of the iceberg.”

Cowherd pointed out, and Collinsworth agreed, that Cincinnati needs to improve its offensive line play in order for Burrow to take that next step.

In the win on Sunday over the Jacksonville Jaguars, Burrow and the Bengals rolled up 505 yards of offense, as he became the first rookie in NFL history to throw for 300 or more yards in three consecutive games.
