We’ve seen many college football games get delayed because of weather this season. Last week, kickoff between LSU and Clemson was held up for more than two hours. This afternoon, Oklahoma State’s upset victory over Oregon began 90 minutes late. Neither of those instances, though, compare to what went down in Washington, PA on Saturday.
The Washington & Jefferson Presidents and Keystone Giants, a pair of Division-III programs, faced off today at W&J’s Cameron Stadium. They were prepared for a 60-minute battle, but only played 30 minutes.
Why? Insane flooding — during a lightning delay — that left the field and surrounding streets looking like a swamp.
Once it learned of the news, social media took hold and some fun with the situation. Comment sections included quick quips, separate observations and fun facts.
Washington & Jefferson picked up its first win of the season with its 42-0 triumph. Keystone fell to 1-1 with the loss. The Giants hope to rebound next week when they travel to play the Southern Virginia Knights (1:00 p.m. E.T.). Meanwhile, the Presidents will tussle with the Case Western Reserve Spartans (7:00 p.m. E.T.). Both games take place on Saturday, Sept. 19.
