The LSU Tigers are almost 2 weeks into the maelstrom caused by the firing of Brian Kelly, but CBS Sports college football analyst Damien Harris went on record Saturday morning with his choice to lead LSU back to greatness.

Ed Orgeron.

“Listen, there’s a lot of names being thrown out right now, but there’s only that makes sense to me. It is familiar, and he has won a national championship there,” Harris said. “I’m sure if you took an IV from him and you took his blood out, there would be Louisiana hot sauce in there.”

Orgeron’s Tigers went 15-0 and won the 2019 national championship with future Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow at the helm. But the gravel-voiced coach departed the program at the end of the 2021 season following back-to-back .500 seasons.

“He has already said he wants to come back. He is familiar, and it shows the love that he has for that program. A lot of people thought he was unfairly let go. A place like LSU needs somebody who embodies the spirit of Louisiana.”

Orgeron, who played at LSU in 1979 before transferring to Northwestern State to finish his playing career, also coached at Ole Miss from 2005-07 and at USC in 2013 before taking the reins at LSU in 2016 following the firing of Les Miles.
