The Florida Gators turned in a disappointing effort for the second week in a row, losing 38-17 at home to Mizzou a week after falling to Georgia in Jacksonville.
The crowd at The Swamp was disappointing as well, not really making much noise after the Gators fell behind early.
After the game, coach Dan Mullen expressed frustration with the home crowd and the fact that the game was not a sellout (via 247Sports):
โThatโs how it works,โ a frustrated Mullen said. โIโm gonna be honest with you, this is how it works too, when we sell out the stadium, we win a championship. It doesnโt go the other way. Itโs not we win, you sell out. You sell out, you win. Go watch teams that have built programs. Thatโs how it works.โ
Mullen encouraged fans to come out in force next weekend, when the Gators play host to the South Carolina Gamecocks:
โI promise you weโll give relentless effort, all the fans,โ he said. โWe will continue to grind. Weโll continue to work. Weโll give unbelievable effort and coach our guys. Weโre gonna work hard to make sure that they come out and play as hard as they can next Saturday. And we need the same from the Gator Nation and the support for this team and pushing them and helping them to go be successful both on and off the field.”
Will the fans rally behind a team that has a good chance to finish the regular season 9-3? We’ll find out starting next weekend.
