Danny Kanell criticizes Sam Leavitt for leaving points on the field vs. Ole Miss

Danny Kanell called it pregame.
The CBS Sports analyst mentioned before Week 3’s monster clash between Ole Miss and LSU that Tigers quarterback Sam Leavitt is a question mark in his eyes, calling him “up and down” heading into Saturday’s pivotal matchup. His evaluation was vindicated on the field, where Leavitt fared 16-for-27 for 158 yards, 1 touchdown and 1 interception at an average of 5.9 yards per attempt in a loss to the Rebels.
On Sunday, Kanell reiterated his concerns for Leavitt and the Tigers moving forward. He mentioned that he still needs to watch the full film, but felt as is Leavitt left a lot of points on the field with what should have been relatively easy throws.

Leavitt has a tendency to make his initial read and bail at the first sign of trouble. The Arizona State transfer’s scrambling is exciting — he totaled 63 rushing yards and a rushing touchdown on Saturday — but doesn’t offer enough consistency to win against good defenses in the SEC. At some point, crucial throws just have to be made. Leavitt did not make those throws Saturday night.
The turnovers can’t be ignored, either. Leavitt has committed at least one turnover in each of his 3 first games as a Tiger and he’s up to 5 interceptions on the year entering next week’s matchup vs. Texas A&M in Baton Rouge.
