Danny Kanell discusses what Ole Miss win over LSU could mean for Trinidad Chambliss’ Heisman hopes

Danny Kanell will be focused on Trinidad Chambliss on Saturday, as the Ole Miss quarterback looks to lead the Rebels to a win over Lane Kiffin and LSU in a massive Week 3 showdown in Oxford.
Saturday could prove meaningful for both teams as they look to get off to a perfect start in SEC play and give a boost to their already strong College Football Playoff hopes. For Chambliss, it’s an opportunity to gain an edge in the Heisman Trophy race after finishing eighth in the vote in 2025.
Leading the Rebels to a win will go a long way in boosting the credentials of Chambliss, who is “the most dynamic quarterback in the country,” according to Kanell. But that might be out of spite of Kiffin, too, he argued.
“We look for moments, we look for opportunities. The whole entire country is going to be watching this game because they hate Lane Kiffin, and they want to see Trinidad Chambliss win. I think that’s what it boils down to,” Kanell said on CBS Sports HQ on Saturday.
LSU’s blowout win over Clemson got the Kiffin era off to a big start in Baton Rouge. That would make a win that much more significant for Chambliss and the Rebels, Kanell said.
“Everybody thinks they’re a super team because of what they did to Clemson. If he’s able to knock them off, I think he would jump possibly to the top of the Heisman leaderboard,” he said.
