Danny Kanell is all about the quarterbacks, as the college football analyst played the position at Florida State and in the NFL. In today’s college football, the quarterback position is as important to a team’s success as it has ever been.

With that in mind, Kanell believes there are only five teams in college football that have a quarterback good enough to win a championship.

Darian Mensah and the Miami Hurricanes faced their first real adversity in Week 9, but they were able to get the 38-35 victory over North Carolina. He had another huge game, going 22-of-29 for 274 yards and three touchdowns. On the season, he has thrown for 2,425 yards, 25 touchdowns, and only one interception. We will learn a lot about Mensah next week, as the Hurricanes go to South Bend to take on Notre Dame.

The Fighting Irish also have a quarterback on the list, CJ Carr. Like Mensah, he has been terrific at not turning the ball over, as he has thrown for 1,849 yards, 18 touchdowns, and one interception. That game isn’t just a battle for the College Football Playoff, but potentially a Heisman Trophy too.

That won’t be the only matchup between quarterbacks on Kanell’s list next week, as Gunner Stockton and Trinidad Chambliss will play in Oxford. Both of these players have played in the College Football Playoff, and have shown they can win those games.

The final quarterback on the list is Jayden Maiava. The Trojans are still on the outside looking in when it comes to making the CFP, but he is as good of quarterback as there is in the country.
