It’s Sunday, which means Danny Kanell is back with his latest top 12 following an exciting week of college football. Among the most crucial results of the weekend, Georgia took down Alabama, Oklahoma upset Texas and UCLA stunned Oregon in Eugene. All that and more have drastically shifted Kanell’s top 12 as we near the halfway point of the regular season.
What should come as no surprise, Georgia is Kanell’s No. 1 team after a grueling battle against the Crimson Tide, who rank 10th on Kanell’s list. Considering SEC teams, only Texas is ranked alongside Georgia and Alabama in Kanell’s top 12 at No. 12.
After Georgia comes Indiana, followed by UCLA at No. 3, Miami at No. 4 and Notre Dame rounding out the top 5. The Hoosiers barely escaped an upset attempt by Nebraska, seemingly remembering they are Indiana while Nebraska is… well, Nebraska. Huskers football blowing winnable games has become a tradition unlike any other.
Ohio State comes in at No. 6, followed by the Big 12 trio of Utah, BYU and Texas Tech, in that order. Kanell views BYU as the best team in the Big 12 after Bear Bachmeier and the Cougars defeated Iowa State Friday night to improve to 5-0 on the season.
Finally, nestled between Alabama and Texas is Iowa, the surprise team of the year in the Big Ten, which took down Washington in Seattle by way of a blowout Friday night.
