Danny Kanell knows it’s only Week 8, but that doesn’t matter to the CBS Sports college football analyst, who is already removing LSU from College Football Playoff contention after Saturday’s loss to Vanderbilt.

The latest Brian Kelly disappointment in a big game brought out a ton of social media criticism, and you can add Kanell to that list. He took to his own social media after the 10th-ranked Tigers got beat, 31-24, by the 17th-ranked Commodores in Nashville, and he only needed 4 words to get his point across in his postgame post.

“LSU. Eliminated from playoffs,” wrote Kanell immediately after LSU fell to 5-2 overall and 2-2 in the SEC.

A second loss isn’t a death sentence in terms of making the Playoff, not in this new age of the 12-team Playoff format. Just go back to last year, when eventual national champion Ohio State snuck into the Playoff with 2 regular-season losses, including a horrible home loss to Michigan in its regular-season finale. The Buckeyes then went on a huge postseason run to capture the national title.

There have been other instances where a 2-loss team have won the national title, including at LSU, which won it all with 2 losses in 2007 under Les Miles.

LSU will host Texas A&M in Week 9.
