We were fortunate to witness some incredible football games in Week 3 of the 2026 college football season. Whether it was against a highly-ranked foe or on the road, many schools rose to the occasion and made big statements.
Once the dust had settled, Danny Kanell recognized he needed to make serious changes to his rankings. He wound up having four SEC teams — the Ole Miss Rebels, Texas Longhorns, Mississippi State Bulldogs and Alabama Crimson Tide — atop his list on Sunday morning, with the Georgia Bulldogs taking his No. 7 spot.
People across the country have believed in Ole Miss, Texas and Alabama from the jump, so it’s not surprising to see them high on Kanell’s board. What could be shocking to folks, though, is his placement of Mississippi State. However, the Bulldogs, led by quarterback Kamario Taylor, have had a great start to the year. Head coach Jeff Lebby‘s team already has two Power 4 road wins on its ledger, including a strong 41-34 victory over South Carolina in Week 3.
After falling down 16-0 to the Gamecocks, the Bulldogs outscored them 41-7 over a roughly 30-minute stretch of game time. Despite this, the in-state rival Rebels’ performance vs. LSU and the Kentucky Wildcats’ win at the Texas A&M Aggies may keep Mississippi State flying under the radar for another week. If that’s the case, the Missouri Tigers could be walking into an absolute bear trap in Week 4.
