Texas A&M linebacker Daymion Sanford shared an update on his progress as he’s attempting to return from a scary leg injury that he sustained during the Aggies’ spring game.

Sanford said the injury wasn’t as bad as initially feared and added that he’s still working his way back to 100% health.

“I’ve been working with the training staff,” Sanford said. “We’ve got the best training staff and doctors in the country at A&M. They’ve been doing a lot with me.

“It wasn’t as bad as I thought it was. The biggest question was ‘was I going to be out for the season?’ It wasn’t as bad. I had a little fibula injury. But I’ve been working on it every day … trying to get back. Trying to get back as soon as I can.”

That’s welcomed news for a Texas A&M defense that hopes to have Sanford on the field this fall. When healthy, Sanford is a potential All-SEC contributor and was expected to be A&M’s top linebacker in 2026. It was previously reported that Sanford is expected to miss at least part of the 2026 season.

Last season in 2025, Sanford totaled 57 tackles, 9.5 tackles for loss, 3.5 sacks, 1 interception and 2 forced fumbles.

Although the Aggies had a good season in 2025, there’s certainly room for improvement on both sides of the ball. Defensively, Texas A&M ranked 8th in the SEC in yards per play allowed.

Texas A&M will open the 2026 season on Sept. 5 against Missouri State.
