Vanderbilt has had a rough season both from a win-loss perspective and dealing with COVID-19 issues.
Coach Derek Mason can relate. The Commodores are looking for their first win of the season this week at Mississippi State, which has its own struggles.
“Without a doubt, but I think it’s for everyone… it’s like anything else, you want the opportunity to compete… this group has had to refocus it’s efforts to head to Starkville against a team with a high-powered offense and a multiple offense… we haven’t reached our potential yet,” Mason said.
Fortunately for Vanderbilt, the Commodores have seen players return, including from false positives in recent days. But it will be a tall order against the potentially high-powered Mississippi State offense, which has had its own struggles.
“We got guys back on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday,” Mason said. “With that, this is about muscle memory, being about to communicate, straining in practice, not everyone had that opportunity… it’s about challenges, everyone has felt that differently… we started that way.”
