One of LSU’s best players is reportedly out of the game tonight against Florida.
Star CB Derek Stingley Jr. “attempted to go in warm-ups and could not,” Ross Dellenger of Sports Illustrated reported. Moments before the Stingley news came out, Florida reporters noted that star TE Kyle Pitts is out of the game as well.
Stingley has had a difficult season as he missed the season opener against Mississippi State.
Stingley Jr. was helped off the field against Alabama after the Crimson Tide went up 35-14 in the second quarter last week in Tiger Stadium. The All-American cornerback got tied up on Devonta Smith’s long touchdown reception from Mac Jones.
He has dealt with multiple health issues this season, including an injury against Arkansas, but he played against Texas A&M. Stingley also faced a health issue earlier in the year. Before the Mississippi State game, Stingley was admitted to a hospital overnight and LSU described him as being “acutely ill.”
Last year, Stingley earned All-America honors, starting all 15 games. Stingley ranked fifth nationally in interceptions with sixth, which led the SEC. He notched 38 tackles and a tackle for loss in 15 games en route to a National Championship.
We’ll see how the LSU defense adjusts against the Florida offense.
