Former Southern University football player Devon Gales found out last month that he was going to be getting a new house.
Well, according to a report from Dawg Nation’s Steve Hummer on Tuesday morning, the foundation work for that new home is already underway.
In the first week of fund-raising – through both donations and purchase of special Georgia-themed apparel – Jones said the group has raised $35,000. On faith that the money will keep coming in, work has begun on a foundation for the new home.
The total cost of the project, which is being conducted in Gales’ home town of Baton Rogue, La. and should provide his family with adequate facilities for his care, is going to be approximately $500,000, according to Hummer’s report.
Triumph over Tradegy is leading the fundraising efforts on the project, selling Georgia-themed Gales t-shirts for $20 and hoodies for $40.
Gales broke his sixth cervical vertebra in game against Georgia back in September. He was taken off on a stretcher and didn’t have any feeling in his body at the time.
However, Gales said in January that he could feel his knee and the bottom of his feet, and that he could move his hands and some fingers.
